Biography

My name is Stephen. I’m a qualified Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist, registered with the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists(COSRT) and an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy(BACP), supervised by both COSRT and BACP accredited professionals. I’ve been practising since 2018, and I specialise in helping people with relationship difficulties, intimacy concerns and sexual issues of all kinds with a special interest in those individuals living with disability.

I know that seeking support for something as personal as sex or intimacy can feel daunting, sometimes more so than any other kind of therapy. My priority is to create a space that feels genuinely safe and free of judgement, where you can talk openly about things you might never have said out loud before. I work with individuals and couples of any gender, sexuality or relationship style, and I take a sex-positive, inclusive approach to whatever you bring.

As a disabled therapist myself, I also bring particular understanding to how disability, and spinal cord injury especially, can affect sexual function, body confidence and relationships. Changes in sensation, mobility or health are often met with silence or assumptions rather than honest conversation, and I want to be someone you can talk to openly about this without having to explain the basics first.

Rather than working from a fixed script, I focus on what’s really going on for you, both emotionally and physically, and tailor each session to your situation. You’ll find me warm, direct and easy to talk to, and I’ll never make assumptions about what you should want, feel or do.

Issues Dealt With

I work with individuals and couples on a wide range of sexual and relationship concerns, including difficulties with arousal, erections, orgasm or ejaculation (premature or delayed), low or mismatched desire, and pain or difficulty with penetration, such as vaginismus, vestibulodynia or vulvodynia. I also support people exploring compulsive sexual behaviour, as well as kink and fetish interests, without judgement. This list isn't exhaustive, so if you're unsure whether I can help, please just ask.

Type of Client

I have particular experience supporting people living with disability, including spinal cord injury, where changes in sensation, movement or function affect sex, intimacy or how you relate to your body and your partner. This might mean adapting to a new sense of what's possible, finding new ways to communicate with a partner, or simply having somewhere honest to explore what's changed. I bring together my disability-informed practice and my psychosexual training to support this work specifically.
