Laura Joanknecht

I am a specialist psychosexual therapist offering trauma-informed therapy for groups,  individuals and couples experiencing sexual concerns.  I bring a wide range of experience from working in a rape crisis centre for a number of years and am currently involved in working with organisations who support survivors of sexual violence.   I also work with long and short term relationships where there are sexual tensions.  I utilise supervision to ensure that I remain in tune and ethically focussed with all my clients.

I pay close attention to how attachment histories, power dynamics, cultural or religious influences, and experiences of shame or coercion shape sexual relationships and sense of self.  I use psychoeducation to support you in understanding why I may be making particular interventions.

Clients describe me as calm, thoughtful, and emotionally attuned. I offer a non-judgemental, sex-positive space with clear ethical boundaries, working collaboratively and at a pace that prioritises safety, agency, and emotional connection.
