Psychosexual Therapy Qualifications

Aside from specific sex and relationship qualifications, I ensure I continuously learn and develop my knowledge and pass on where it might be helpful for you. This might being aware of a new peer support, podcast, medication or TED talk, through to longer trainings. I have tried to deep dive in trainings for my specialist areas that can affect sex and relationships. These include, relationship & couples dynamics (including Imago/ Unconscious fit, Transactional Analysis, Systemic, Esther Perel) attachment,  sexual or developmental trauma (looking at vagus nerve, physiology and chronic illness or stuckness), somatic practices (Somatic Experiencing/ Hakomi/ pleasure based knowledge – Cyndi Darnell/ Bonnie Bliss) boarding school survivial syndrome, multiple Pink Therapy trainings (GSRD – Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity. This includes bisexuality, consensual non-monogomy, intersectionality, kink).

Biography

Sex Therapy with Heart in West London. Professional. Ethical. Passionate.

My strengths as a practitioner are working holistically with any presenting sexual difficulty or issue, often known in the medical world as a ‘sexual dysfunction,’  but also couples or individuals who have lost their ‘mojo’ in their relationship and need to be revitalised.  I find that at the heart of my work is the relationship with yourself – whether you are working on you getting into a relationship, managing in a longer term relationship or working through sexual or relational trauma . Sex and relational therapy, I find is rarely just about sex. It’s a jigsaw puzzle of factors to explore. Shall we sit down together and put some pieces together?

I offer a free 10/15 minute chat on the phone to find out if I might be the right person to work with you. Feel free to call, text or email me to set this up. But before that, it might help you to have a look at my website -www.sexualhealinguk.com – and no, Marvin Gaye doesn’t play in the practice room! Looking forward to hearing from you. Lets start the conversation.

Types of Therapy Used

My goal is to help you understand what’s going on and facilitate you making the changes you want to make abut closeness to others, and your own identity (erotic or other).. To achieve that I work integratively using different counselling techniques and theories – somatic and body psychotherapy, creative, movement, talking, psycho-education, transpersonal, systemic, psychodynamic. There is no set starting and stopping place – it will depend on you, what work you have done before, and how you find changing. I try to learn and experience different methodologies myself, often outside of a formal CPD environment to understand what it is to be a client. And often offer signposts to other types of work, if that feels safe for you. Some sessions will be faster paced and coaching focused, others more thought provoking. At some stage in the work, you are likely to have behavioural work to try between sessions, so you’ll need to make some time for that in your life when that comes. This will depend on who you are, what you respond to and how far along we are in the therapeutic process.

Issues Dealt With

Within psychosexual & relationship therapy, I have further niche training to work with trauma, early development attachment, sexual, gender and relationship diversity (Kink and non monogamy) and emodied somatic work. Overall helping you figure out what a 'physical difficulty' might be showing you and how you can have the sex and relationships you would most like to be having. I do not work with a sex addiction model, and work with people no matter what their gender, sexual orientation, or profession – whether a sex worker, surveyor or sales person!

Type of Client

Most commonly clients refer themselves with what they believe is a 'physical' sexual difficulty or a lack of interest on their own or to a specific partner. Recently within this niche, I've been working with those have attended boarding school, people who experienced child sexual abuse, who have never had sex or find it difficult to maintain loving , intimate connections – whether breaking set boundaires or avoiding all together. Many people feel more in touch with their emotions and sexuality and needs by the time they finish work. 'Out of their heads and into their bodies' would be a good summary. If people are looking at relationship difficulties – struggles getting into or staying in relationships, or unpicking repeating patterns. People say they are better at knowing and communicating their needs.
