On Friday 29th January 2021, Tim Blackstone will be presenting this online live event via zoom on Working with Young People/Relationship and Sex Education (RSE).
A growing number of young people are presenting with sex and relationship issues. The changing way in which they learn about sex has undoubtedly had an impact upon sexuality, helped fuel unrealistic expectations, body dysmorphia, sexual dysfunction and relational issues.
In 2020 Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) finally becomes statutory in our schools.
But what does this mean and are teachers fully equipped to teach this subject? And are we as psychosexual and relationship therapists is a position to help with this teaching? The curriculum covers contraception, STIs and has now acknowledged the importance of diversity and consent. But does it promote a progressive attitude towards sexual pleasure and equality?
This training will explore how we as therapists can support the teaching of RSE by combining our subject knowledge with the principles of youth work education.
Aims and Objectives

- Identify the skills needed to become a good sex and relationship educator
- Highlight the main topics that should be covered in RSE
- Explore how these topics can be taught in a group work environment
- Increase confidence when educating young people on sex and relationship issues

Presenter, Tim Blackstone is a Liverpool based COSRT Accredited Psychosexual Therapist. Working for the Abacus Sexual Health Service, part of the Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, he sees patients with a wide range of sexual dysfunctions and relationship problems. He also set up and co-ordinates the Liverpool, Sefton and Knowsley Trans Support Service (TSS) for patients with gender related issues. He was a founder member of the So To Speak Sex and Relationship Education and Outreach Team and has delivered SRE to vulnerable young people across Merseyside for over 18 years. He also writes and delivers SRE training packages to professionals working in educational and care settings. Having previously been on the board of trustees for the Merseyside Brook Advisory Service, he now holds a similar role with COSRT. He is also a sexual health tutor on the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology’s (CICS) COSRT approved Diploma course.
