To tie in with the conference weekend theme of Parenting, COSRT is pleased to announce a CPD day focused on Birth Trauma on Friday 12 June.
The purpose of this knowledge-based workshop is to provide up-to-date information and training around birth trauma and postpartum PTSD for your audience.
The workshop addresses a critical need in the education of mental health professionals in the identification and treatment of birth trauma which is often poorly diagnosed and treated.
The day will be led by Dr Helena Belgrave and Nikki Wilson on behalf of Make Birth Better – a unique collective of parents and professionals working together to end suffering from birth trauma.
The day will focus on providing up-to-date information on birth trauma, assessment, and intervention through presentation/lecture, group work and group discussions.
Participants’ learning will be measured via question-and-answer sessions during the workshop, in writing at the end, and, in the post-completion survey, by asking about the level of understanding obtained for the objectives listed below.
The course is appropriate for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and other mental health professionals.
At the end of the day participants will:
1. Know what birth trauma is, its incidence and prevalence including amongst specialist groups, BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) women and LGBTQIA+ women
2. Implement screening, assessment, and planning for birth trauma
3. Describe evidenced-based interventions to prevent birth trauma
4. Understand the treatments available for birth trauma
5. Understand how to use the Make Birth Better model for reflective practice
6. Have the opportunity to join the Make Birth Better collective at no charge, sign up to our email bulletins and purchase our manual on trauma-informed care
Dr Helena Belgrave is a counselling psychologist who specialises in perinatal issues. She has always run her own private practice in South East London where she sees clients with perinatal concerns, and more recently has joined the Parenthood in Mind practice.
