Sexuality, Trauma and Abuse
The latest issue of COSRT’s multidiscplinary Journal of Sex and Relationship Therapy is dedicated to sexuality, trauma and abuse.
This special issue opens with clinical review editorial by Dr. Belous, which truly offers an overview relevant to practitioners and academics. The issue is then divided into two sections. The first section focuses on the same content area as the upcoming 2023 conference – working with trauma in Psychosexual and Relationship therapy practice. Articles are included that focus on the following:
- Trauma, attachment, and therapeutic alliance.
- Applying neuroscience to trauma and use of mindfulness.
- Compassion focused psychosexual therapy.
- Transforming trauma through BDSM.
- Sex therapy and somatic therapy practices.
- Case studies of an online sensate focus application.
The second section of this special issue focuses on the same content as the most recent spring conference – working with abuse in relational systems in clinical practice.
Much like the annual spring conference, which happened in June of 2023 and showcased a variety of topics ranging from—domestic violence and abuse in same-sex couples (McCann, 2023) to safeguarding adults and children within the context of domestic abuse (Wnorowska, 2023) to mechanisms involved in coercive control (Clifford, 2023) to exploring the barriers facing male victims of domestic abuse (Brooks, 2023)—this section of the special issue focuses on a wide variety of topics, as well.
Articles included focus on the:
- Relationship between subtle partner sexual violence and sexual dysfunction.
- Levels of distress during pregnancy as related to sexual relationship power and intimate partner violence (IPV).
- Relationship between IPV, resilience, and health problems in Pakistani married couples.
- The effects of adverse childhood experiences on partnered sexual arousal.
