Date(s) - 05/10/2018
9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Institute of Family Therapy

CPD Hours six

This one-day training aims to consider models of decision making for ethical dilemmas in supervision and to provide a forum for supervisors to come together to discuss practical, ethical and legal challenges of supervision (our own and our supervisees’) in the sexual and relationship psychotherapy discipline. A day of sharing collegiate discussions with other supervisors who are interested in and prepared to bring content to the discussion.

Participants are invited to bring their dilemmas of their own that they wish to discuss or explore during the day. We rely on participants to do this to have considered in advance the aspects of confidentiality both ethically and contractually in doing this.

As the intention of the day is to be as flexible and collegiate as possible, participants will see from the proposed outline that there will be an opportunity to discuss how the day will be used. The outline of the day is indicative of what we hope to cover. However, the exact format of the day will be negotiated with the group.

Expected learning objectives-

  • furthering our collective understanding of the role of the supervisor in the particular context of PST and couple work and of available models and resources in supervision for decision making in ethical dilemmas
  • greater awareness of and ability to assess our own and our supervisees preparedness to meet potential ethical dilemmas, especially at the interface of ethics and legal issues in psychotherapy.
  • increased awareness of how far our contracts for supervision supports our facing dilemmas
  • awareness of how our own style supports or does not support our own work and that of our supervisees around such dilemmas
  • greater clarity of where we might need to enhance our detailed knowledge and greater awareness of any support facilities we need to have in place
