CPD Hours six

“Ethical practice requires the practitioner to have adequate knowledge and understanding of gender and sexual diversity and to be free from any agenda that favours one gender identity or sexual orientation as preferable over other gender and sexual diversities.”

2nd Memorandum of Understanding against Conversion Therapy – October 2017

During this one day course participants will gain a broad foundation in sexual diversity awareness and will be in a better position to offer support to clients who may present with issues surrounding their sexual identity and orientation. The course will provide adequate knowledge to allow practitioners to better understand their own feelings toward sexual diversity and for them to work without preconceived ideas.

This day is complementary to Kirstie’s other CPD event ‘Let’s Talk About Gender’ and builds upon the awareness of diversity that was demonstrated during that day. This is a stand-alone event and does not require attendees to have been at the previous training.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the day participants will

  • have an understanding of some of the theoretical approaches, to give better awareness of the influence of society and culture on sexual diversity. Intersectionality and Queer theory will be explained.
  • better understand the relationship between Identity, Orientation, Sex and Expression
  • learn about the history of sexual diversity – Kinsey and Kline
  • understand sexual orientation and identity, and how gender impacts on this in a non-binary society.
  • better understand various orientations, what they are, how they interact.
  • learn how sexual orientation is made up of more than one element – sexual and romantic attraction.
  • Gain an insight into various sexual practices such as anal sex, chemsex and same sex relationships.
