CPD Hours six

Chemsex is a cultural phenomenon and public health concern that stands differently to other kinds of recreational drug use. This training day is for therapists and students who wish to have a better understanding of how to empathise with, and support people who engage in chemsex.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand the cultural contexts, history and manifestations of chemsex
  • To empathise with the (sometimes) challenging behaviours chemsex clients present with
  • To manage our own personal, moral or religious beliefs that might be challenged by chemsex behaviour.
  • To be alert to the most acute risks and harms associated with chemsex
  • An improved understanding of the role of HIV and sexual health in chemsex
  • Skills to manage the ambivalence and defensiveness that can sometimes accompany drug use
  • Tools to support chemsex clients to reduce harm and make changes around their chemsex behaviour.
