Get Involved
COSRT is very grateful to all our members who volunteer to help us with our work. Without the help of volunteers we would be able to do so much less. For example this website was put together with the help of volunteer members. And we can keep costs down as well. Our conferences would be much more expensive without the help of our volunteer Conference Committee.
But we always need more help so if you are interested please contact our CEO, Corinna Furse on ceo@cosrt.org.uk or one of the Chairs of the major committees or speak to a trustee at one of our conferences. Volunteering can be hard work, great fun and very interesting. You will learn a great deal about the professional issues affecting your profession and grapple with the challenges facing COSRT. Committee experience will enhance your CV and count towards your annual CPD.
There are many opportunities for members to volunteer in COSRT. The board of trustees are all volunteers and responsible for the overall governance and management of the charity. The majority of our committees are made up of volunteer members.
Become a Trustee
The COSRT Trustees are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of COSRT. Trustees must adhere to a code of professional conduct, declare any conflict of interests and ensure:
- professional and transparent administration systems
- ultimate responsibility for all the charity does
- acting responsibly and prudently
- safeguard and protection of assets
- duty to act collectively
- act in the best interests of the charity
- avoid conflict between personal interests and the charity
What is a Charity Trustee?
Trustees are responsible by law for the financial security and transparency of the charity. COSRT is a charity and company limited by guarantee. All Trustees are also company directors under company law. Read more about Charity Commission.

Join a Committee
A good introduction to COSRT can be to join one of our committees. The two main committees that together make up the Management Board are the Professional Standards Board (PSB) and the Public and Professional Relations Committee (PPRC).
These committees meet about four times a year, often by telephone and there is work to do between meetings. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed by COSRT. There are also a number of committees that report to these two main committees such as the Ethics Committee and the Assessors’ Panel. They all welcome interested and committed volunteers. For further information or an informal chat please contact CEO, Corinna Furse, on ceo@cosrt.org.uk or Peter Gregory on chairPSB@cosrt.org.uk, Liz Hadland on chairPPRC@cosrt.org.uk or Judith Turner on vicechairPSBC@cosrt.org.uk.
